Battlefield 3 maps




Battlefield 3 will feature 9 multiplayer maps across 5 game modes. Each map will support each game mode: Rush, Squad Rush, Team Deathmatch, Conquest and Conquest 64. On top of the 9 maps, there will be an additional 4 maps as part of the Back to Karkand expansion pack. Here’s the list of maps confirmed for Battlefield 3:

Operation Metro



The first Battlefield 3 map to be showcased is Operation Metro, which was playable during E3 2011. The map is set in Paris, where the battlegrounds range from parks, to city streets, to underground subways.

Operation Metro was the first map ever showcased for Battlefield 3, and was the map used in the Alpha and Beta testing of the game. The map is set in Paris, France, where Russian forces have taken control of a portion of the city and the US Marines attack in the Rush mode. The map also supports Conquest, Conquest 64, Squad Rush and Team Deathmatch.

Operation Metro Unique features

The map is divided into three main sections: An outside area centered around a park, a large, underground metro area, and another open, Urban environment. The map offers a lot of tense combat and tight sections, particularly in the Subway section.


Caspian Border

Caspian Border is large, open Battlefield 3 maps with 64 player support and features both jets, helicopters, tanks, APCs and many other vehicles.


Caspian Border was the second Battlefield 3 multiplayer map to be revealed. It’s a large, open map centered around a border area. The Russian and US forces each start out from their main bases and advance towards the five capture points spread across the map.

Caspian Border is a large, open map with a lot of room for vehicle combat — and the map features both Jets, Helicopters, Tanks and APCs. The capture points are relatively close together, meaning there will be some tight and tense combat for both infantry and vehicles.


Operation Firestorm





Operation Firestorm is a desert map set around an oil refinery. It features both jets, helicopters, tanks and more.

Battlefield 3 Operation Firestorm map is an open map set in the desert with capture points surrounding an oil refinery. The map, in its Conquest mode, has plenty of vehicles, including Jets, Helicopters and Tanks, as well as infantry focused areas on the map. Operation Firestorm in Battlefield 3 will support all four game modes: Rush, Squad Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Conquest.

While the map area is large, the 5 capture points in the map are somewhat tightly placed together, meaning infantry won’t have any trouble advancing from flag to flag. The outer areas are quite open thought, with plenty of room for jets to navigate.


Grand Bazaar

Grand Bazaar is an infantry-focused map with a dense urban setting.






Battlefield 3 Grand Bazaar map has an urban, Middle Eastern setting with a lot of close quarter, tight infantry combat. Grand Bazaar is light on vehicles and has a dense, urban location with a lot of alleys and streets, perfect for flanking towards the objectives, whether they are capture points or M-COM stations.

Grand Bazaar features

Grand Bazaar is set in a tight, urban environment, where fast movement and good infantry skills are key. The map retains its urban and dense setting regardless of what mode is played, whether its Conquest or Rush, Team Deathmarch or Squad Deathmatch.

Damavand Peak



Damavand Peak is set around the mountains of Damavand in Iran.

Damavand Peak is a Battlefield 3 map based on the real world mountain of Damavad in Iran. The Battlefield 3 versions of Damavand Peak will be a barren landscape with a lot of shifts in altitude between the different objectives. The map will also feature based jumping on the Rush game mode, where attackers base jump into the first area of attack.

Gulf of Oman

A Battlefield 2 remake, Gulf of Oman for Battlefield 3 will retain much of the same visual style and a very similar desert setting, with both urban areas and more wide-open spaces for tank and jet combat.

Gulf of Oman was the first playable Battlefield 2 map, and will return in Battlefield 3 as part of the Back To Karkand expansion pack. Gulf of Oman offers little of everything: open battlegrounds, urban combat, large areas for jets, and so on.

Gulf of Oman unique features

Gulf of Oman is a large map with a lot of capture points. The US and Russian forces start at their respective bases and/or at some of the capture points they already control. The Russian side starts with 3 capture points, while the advancing US side starts with 4 capture points. Both teams start out with an wide selection of jets, tanks, APCs and helicopters.\


Wake Island

Wake Island takes a big departure from the Battlefield 2 version. Instead of lush, tropical visuals, we get a more darker and gritty map which has been ravaged by war and combat.



Wake Island is a classic Battlefield map that has been featured in numerous Battlefield games, and will return in Battlefield 3 as part of the Back To Karkand expansion pack. Wake Island is based on the real world Wake Island and famous WW2 battleground, and has become a classic map for Battlefield players.

Wake Island Features

From the beginning of the round, Wake Island is controlled by the Russian side, and it’s up to the US to advance and capture the island, flag by flag, to the end at the main Russian airbase. Wake Island is dominated by air combat, with both sides having several jets and helicopters at their disposal.


Strike at Karkand

Strike at Karkand was a dusty, grim map in Battlefield 2 with low visibility and almost no colors besides khaki. The Battlefield 3 version is more colorful and lifelike.



Strike At Karkand is a legendary map and will be featured in Battlefield 3 as part of the Back To Karkand expansion pack. The map is a heavy urban environment with a lot of close quarter combat.

Strike at Karkand unique features

Strike at Karkand is set in the fictional city of Karkand, with little or no open areas. Most of the combat happens on the streets of the city, where each team only have one tank and one APC at their disposal.


Kharg Island

Kharg Island is based on the real-world island off the coast of Iran.




Kharg Island is a brand new Battlefield 3 map set on the real-life version of Kharg Island, situation just off the coast of Iran. The island is an important port of oil transport and oil pipelines. Kharg Island also serves as an important Naval Base for the Iranian Navy. Kharg Island in Battlefield 3 will retain the same, desert landscape and is expected to be limited to the island only, where both US and Russian bases will be situated.
Kharg Island is our second map with boat gameplay. Thematically it’s representing an assault against Kharg island in the Persian sea, an industrialized island not far from the Iranian coast. The map is slightly more focused on vehicles with longer distance between flags than for example Noshahar Canals. In the Rush game mode, the beach assault begins on the coastline with a well-defended beach you need to break through to create a beachhead for further attacks on the island, before it opens up wider in the later part of the map.


Tehran Highway

Set in and around the capitol of Iran, Tehran.



Battlefield 3 Tehran Highway, is, as the name suggests, based around the Iranian capitol of Tehran, where US and Russian forces in Battlefield 3 will battle on a map in the style of Road to Jalalabad. The map is expected to feature liberal use of vehicles and helicopters, especially on the 64 player conquest version.


Seine Crossing

Centered on a crossing of the famous French river Seine.




Battlefield 3 Seine Crossing is a map situated in France, and is the second Battlefield 3 map set in France the first being Operation Metro. Seine Crossing will revolve around the famous French river Seine, most likely around one of many of its bridges, many of which were the center points of famous battles in World War 2. Operation Seine in Battlefield 3 will, like all other maps, support all 4 game modes.


Noshahr Canals

Noshahr Canals is based on the Iranian province of Noshahr in northern Iran.


Noshahr Canals is a Battlefield 3 map based on the real world location of Noshahr in northern Iran. The place is surrounded by a lush environment and is a very popular tourist location. In Battlefield 3, Noshahr Canals is expected to be based in or around many of the forests in the area, with teams battling it out in jungle-like environments. Noshahr Canals will support all four Battlefield 3 modes: Rush, Conquest, Team Deathmatch and Squad Deathmatch.
