Hey all!

Well after a couple of years of enjoying my Coolermaster Centurion it was time too cut it up to pieces!
So that's something I did and that's something you can view in the pictures below. I decided too change the case because I bought myself a nice new fresh smelling EVGA GTX580 3GB version. The casemod isn't done yet, last thing i'm planning too do is to spray paint it all over black again. Also I wanna spray the inside for better looks so it will match the whole case.

Hope you all enjoy the pics and POSITIVE comments are appreiciated. Remember this is my first cut with a dremel and I was a bit to lazy to remove all the edges and make it smooth (something I will do in the near future).

Enjoy the pics and expect more updates soon!
DarkVoo

My new EVGA card still in the box:

GTX580 installed, yeah the case was then still dirty ;)

Measuring where my windows are gonna go:

http://i815.photobucket.com/albums/zz77/StephanZee/Casemod/2011-09-17123938.jpg

Tools of the trade:

Handy workstation:

http://i815.photobucket.com/albums/zz77/StephanZee/Casemod/2011-09-17124208.jpg

First window is cut out (damn used so many dremel discs):

http://i815.photobucket.com/albums/zz77/StephanZee/Casemod/2011-09-17145414.jpg

Well after that my old thrusty dremel decided it was time to visit the heaven of tools. So Steve got into the car went to the local handy store and bought myself a epic new dremel. Including with this dremel are some high speed discs for cutting true steel. Jeah no more changing discs after 4 secondes of cutting case steel ;)

http://i815.photobucket.com/albums/zz77/StephanZee/Casemod/2011-09-17145422.jpg

The dremel comes with allot of addons:

http://i815.photobucket.com/albums/zz77/StephanZee/Casemod/2011-09-17145432.jpg

There both windows installed and new fan also installed (still wasn't happy):

http://i815.photobucket.com/albums/zz77/StephanZee/Casemod/2011-09-17172031.jpg

Case without flash ( notice the VU leds on my memory :D ):

http://i815.photobucket.com/albums/zz77/StephanZee/Casemod/2011-09-17172044.jpg

As the computer was done I still wasn't quit happy with the result. So browsing online Voo did some clicking here and there and all of the sudden I got some new stuff! (LOVE getting boxes with new thingy's!):

http://i815.photobucket.com/albums/zz77/StephanZee/Casemod/2011-09-28162652.jpg

Okay all ready?? Let's upgrade the case again:

http://i815.photobucket.com/albums/zz77/StephanZee/Casemod/2011-09-30143602.jpg

There that's more like it! (Voo happy!):

Oehhhh shiny lights:

http://i815.photobucket.com/albums/zz77/StephanZee/Casemod/2011-09-30173244.jpg

New SATA UV cables are looking nice:

http://i815.photobucket.com/albums/zz77/StephanZee/Casemod/2011-09-30173317.jpg

Frontside of the case is also looking better now:

http://i815.photobucket.com/albums/zz77/StephanZee/Casemod/2011-09-30173407.jpg

Just a epic pic (my opinion):

http://i815.photobucket.com/albums/zz77/StephanZee/Casemod/2011-09-30173452.jpg

A movie of the modes the fans in my case do, it got 11 modes...pfff only like the blue lights looks like a christmas show :P

Well that's about it guys/girls hope you all like it. When i'm done painting the case I will post new pictures then. Perhaps some more changes are coming hope. Hopefully my SSD will be deliverd today so I can install that tommorow.

Looking forward to see pics of everybody's case i'm curious how all your cases are looking!

Grtz!

Good Job! You have put a lot of passion to it, the blue lights look really nice! Great work you have made with the windows! I can recommend you a CPU cooler, there are good and cheap products on the market! Finally you will get more CPU performance with overclocking. Its very easy btw! If you're interested i can give u some tipps.

I will post some pics of my Cooler Master HAF-X soon!;)

Would definitely go for a power supply with a higher wattage, 450W might just be enough for this system but if he's gonna upgrade later he'll need to replace his power supply as well, which is not necessary. Get a 550-600W PSU, that'll be enough.

Also keep in mind that the XFX only has 1 PCIe 6pin and 1 PCIe 6+2pin, all of these will be used by the 6950 (is that one unlockable btw?), so if he wants to connect his old graphics card as well he'll need to get a PSU with 4x PCIe, or a molex adapter, not very familiar with those though. Problem is there aren't many <600W PSU's with 4x PCIe, if you really want to use your old card it'll be better to buy one of those molex thingies I think, saves money.
Also that XFX is not a modular PSU, so you'll have a mess of cables in your system.

There are enough 2x PCIe 550- to 600 watt power supply's, I liked the OCZ 550W fatal1ty, but that one has a red fan which will look ugly with your blue CM690II fan, you can turn the blue one off though.

Have a look for yourself at tweakers, Corsair is a good brand (and so are others, google will be your friend I guess).

Don't know that much about PSU's, but what I do know is that you don't want to have a mess like this in your case!

Shouldn't be 120gb SSD be better ? is the difference not really visible?

And indeed I got like a 'old' complete new actually Nvidea 69** or something like that.
Nothing hardcore but could maybe run nice as a second one ...

How does that processor runs in comparing with an i5?

And how would these set up run BF3, witch would be the main purpose!? :p

(Yes I'm really retarded in these things! :) )

Caveman
2011-10-11, 10:29
Compared to an i5 it runs faster! And yes a ssd is way faster!

Aks DarkVoo his idea about running BF3 on his amd system.

Also this mobo is am3+ wich means you can put the new bulldozer on it!
i will make another list this afternoon wich some other options like ssd.

this one really tops your budget but it's a good system ;) I put this 6950 (30 euros more expensive than the one Caveman used) in there because its a reference model, so you can unlock it to a 6970. Only difference is that the 6950 uses 2x PCIe 6pin, and 6970 1 PCIe 6pin and 1 PCIe 6+2pin. Hardly makes any difference for powering purposes. I'll make a better priced system for you too, I will post it later.

How about stuff like screens, mice, mousepads, keyboards and headsets?

RPGforYOU
2011-10-11, 17:35

After some looking and some technical advice of stompy! ;p

I have come up with this list how does that go for you guy's ;) (note 100 euro -> Windows 7 operating system.)
+ no HD since I found a working 250 gb witch will do good. (Since this pc is just for gaming nothing more!)

Link to my set up (http://www.alternate.be/html/pcbuilder/productListing.html?searchClass=raid&cn=4&tn=BUILDERS)
-,- seems not to work ... try it anyway ...

Headlines will be
Graphic card same but a 2gb
For the processor no need for a 6x core so 4x core would do fine!
SSD of 60 GB
And all the rest I guess ... :p

Hidde
2011-10-12, 16:35
You'll need a "larger" harddrive, definitely. Caveman's system looks really good, but change the 1GB Sapphire back to the 2GB club3d. Also keep in mind that your old harddrive and DVD drive may be IDE ones which is old and the mobo doesn't have a connector for it. IDE wires are flat but really wide, with a large connector. SATA is a flat wire too but much more compact.

http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/bestelkosten/209437

This is my list for you. Changed a few things:

-SSD from 128 to 64GB, the reading speeds are high but the writing speeds aren't that high, but neither is the price, ideal for a boot drive.
-Changed the Sapphire 1GB 6950 to the Club3D 2GB from caveman's first system.
-Changed the power supply to a modular one
-Added DVD drive, if your current one is SATA you can take 竄ャ18,20 off the price.
-Added a casefan, very silent
-Changed the CM 690II Basic to CM 690II Advanced, because the advanced version has an SSD adapter and a few other extra things (click me) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AubfqMN9XgE)

Kept the 1100T, it's just a good processor. Feel free to change it to a 965 if you really want that :) Will be an approx. 竄ャ60 "discount".

I would never use a normal wirelles mouse and keybord for gaming anyway.

But why a small ssd hidde? i specially put the 128 GB version in the list so there is at least space to put your games on the ssd.
Never forget that you have to under partition an ssd to make trim working. So from the 64 GB they advertise with there will be arround 44 GB availleble.

Well windows 7 and bf3 will not take 128 gb right ? :p

I thought he would only want to put w7 and his main game on there.

Never heard of TRIM but I looked it up

In computing, a TRIM command allows an operating system to inform a solid-state drive (SSD) which blocks of data are no longer considered in use and can be wiped internally.

I doubt his main game and Windows 7 itself will ever be considered not in use. Or am I misunderstanding things?

You are misunderstanding things hidde, ssd is like normal memory modules. So data is written on it and there is data constantly written and deleted.
So normaly there is nothing that empty the written blocks that are not used anymore. Without trim your ssd wil slowly fill up and become slower and slower.
And that is not what you want if you buy an ssd.

That is why we have trim. Trim empty's the blocks that are still filled but not in use anymore. And to let trim do it's job properly you have to underpartition your ssd.

For example you have a 60GB ssd you have to make a 45GB partition on it and leave the left over 15GB empty for trim. So it has space to move arround blocks.

And about the ssd size for RPG: buy a 120GB ssd. I have a 60GB ssd and have only windows 7 x64 on it and office 2010 and there is only 17.3GB left so i have no space for BF3 anymore. BF3 is requires more then 20GB harddiskspace!

Why would you put BF3 on the SSD anyway? I hardly had loading time at all and I have a regular Spinpoint 750GB hdd.

Okay here's a little update, I received some of the stuff and now still waiting on the last parts and then it's done.
Thinking also about buying a second 120GB SSD and set the system into RAID 0, but gonna give that some thought and perhaps tomorrow i'm gonna buy a second one. Hopefully today the last boxes will arrive! テつ* :?

What amount of noise this make?

darkvoo
2011-10-16, 20:22
It's really quiet, if all is above 20db it's really loud :D The case is nice and quiet, it's the big fans wich keep it so quiet and the enermax cooling is also below 18db.

that is one helluva rig, mr neanderthalensis did a great job with the cables, and that ATX board looks tiny in that giant case!

one question: why AMD? It's such a monster, a 2011 socket processor would be the finishing touch (or a 2600K)

Uhm:

This will be it just need some minor adjustments: http://tweakers.net/gallery/431520?wish_id=250509#tab:wenslijst

I will be needing maybe other motherboard, cause they couldn't deliver it straight away. For the rest.

!
I need some experts advice on if everything is gone connect with each other.
And that I don't buy anything that is not gone fit in 1. my case or 2. in connections I don't have.

Cause buying something I'm nothing with it. Yeh ... Don't want to come in that alley!

Also me and my dad are gone put the computer together.
My dad himself did evening school on electronics. So he can make the cables look nice.
+ Its gone be fun and a experience more for me of course! :)

In meanwhile I got the OG version of Windows 7 Ultimate on the mac running.
And that does it fine! So I think it will do it fine on that PC aswell, Thanks Caveman! ;D

And Office 2010 I found also, for college.

So yeh, if some guy's can clarify that everything is gone fit and work. THANK YOU then! :)
And then I will be ordering everything this week probably.

Everything will fit, the case has USB3.0 on the front so you need a USB3.0 header, the P8Z68-V/gen3 has one (near the 24pin). The motherboard requires an 8pin cpu power cable - the PSU has it. Enough PCIe connectors as well. Check champ's topic to see how to connect the front panel stuff (reset button, on/off switch etc), I posted a picture there.

oh and the motherboard has a blue LED in the Asus logo on the big flat heatsink :) (at least my Deluxe version does)
