Hi all,

I'm thinking about buying a new PC, I was wondering if you have some suggestions.

I have two things what most important to me.
Video editing 1920x1080 at 50 frames per second. (I have a camcorder that can record in that, so for none of my PCs can play it at full framerate)
Good for gaming, for example my current PC is not able to run BC2 :P

I have heared intel i7 is good for processor, and should have like 3x 2GB memory at least.

So what are your suggestions? :)

How much can you spend, if we know the budget, it makes it easier.

I have the i7 920, it's sooo sweet, 6GB ram. For video editing, I would get like 8 GB ram, just because you can :-)

Lets say up to 800/1000 euro :)

ok so for CPU intel i7 920.

for mainboard, what is the best to get, I used to get asus, or would you suggest something better.

CPU: Intel I7 870 (cheaper and not really slower than the expensive 920)
And i would order a boxed version of the CPU otherwise there is the possibility to get a already used one.
And go for an extra CPU cooler. i bought a Noctune ... can check this later if u interested

Mainboard:Asus P7p55D or anything above
Graphiccard: I prefer Nvidia. The GTX460 Sonic PLatinum (Palit) is a good decision cause it´s not realy slower than the expensive version like the 470. Check out Adobe.com to check what graphic cards are supported by Premiere and after effect (if u are using these)

RAM: min 8 GB with a fast timing but if u realy wanne do some ordinary stuff with movie u need ass much ass possible

HD:I prefer Western Digital. Go for a fast and big raid system with huge space on it. If u wanne spend some more on this u can buy SSD- Harddrive but SSD are realy expensive.

Soundcard: i am using a creative x-fi Music

Maybe something like this....

Processor:
The i930 is more interesting than the i920, because it's about the same price but faster (2,80 vs 2,68 Ghz).

I agree with Kenzey on an 8 serie processor, you can choose the i7 860 or the i7 870. They equal the performance of the i930 in games. The i7 875K has an unlocked multiplier and is €20 more expensive than the 870

BUT BE AWARE, the 8 series have a dual channel memory controller and the 9 series a triple channel, so keep that in mind when ordering memory modules.

BUT, an i5 is fast enough for today's games. i5 are dual core except for i5 750 and all have a dual channel memory controller.

Mainboard:
The i3's, i5's and i7 860, 870, 875K use a 1156 pin mainboard. The rest of i7 a 1366 pin mainboard so pay attention on this.

Memory:
Over 4GB memory is only usefull if you use a 64-bit windows.

Graphics:
I would also go for nVidia GTX460.

FINAL NOTE: Intel has announced pricedrops soon, so keep in mind.

The source for all this info is www.hardware.info , my favorite hardware site and magazine.

Good luck on choosing.

just little tips:

http://tweakers.net/archieven/tag/best+buy+guide/ ÂÂ*---> i always use these guides as a base (im not that techy ;) ) tweakers is very very usefull!
www.azerty.nl --> nice and cheap...in my experience pretty good and helpfull

Ok I checked the best buy guide as Smunt said, but they give two systems that are with AMD and Radeon.
Are they really that bad or is intel/nvidia much better?

http://tweakers.net/reviews/1786/3/tweakers-punt-net-best-buy-guide-editie-september-2010-game-en-high-end-gamesysteem.html

I also think Solid state disc is more expensive, most mainboards today have RAID possibilitie, so I think I will for some RAID config.
And 8GB RAM wont be problem, I will get Windows7 64bit.

What I configured myself in pricewatch is this:

Let me know what you think of it :)

Hey Tux,

Good to see my links are helpfull, amd/radeon config are imho pretty good!
I really was a nvidia fanboy but when i bought my pc last year the amd/radeon config gave me so much more bang for bucks.
So for me it was a price issue, had a budget and with that budget i got a better and faster pc with the amd/radeon setup.
Especially on a gaming pc (therefore the best buy guide prefere amd/radeon setup).
But...i read you want to do videoediting etc. i think (but not sure) i was told or i read somewhere that for videoediting etc the intel is the prefered choise.
So it depends mostly on the purpose you have for the pc and your budget.
Maybe somebody with a more techy background can help you further.

Do you guys also have some suggestion for case / powersupply / fans
Looks I dont care about, just a simple one with enough space for my HDDs etc

Also the mainboard I choose has possibility for SLi do I need a cable for that, or is it included with the videocard?

JohnnyPara
2010-09-08, 16:49
If you buy a power supply that is SLI ready (in the case of AMD its called crossfire) then the cables come with the supply. The fact that it supports SLI means that it's a powerful supply.
A SLI or Xfire bridge is mostly with the graphics card.

! The 920 van easely be Overclocked to a lot more HZ than the 930 !
its cheaper and better!
Sorry para :D

The 920 is outdated, they don't even sell it anymore according to the big electronics stores I've checked. The 930 is better by default and cheaper, plus, don't you think the 930 is capable of being overclocked as well? Anyhow it's your mistake to make.

This one is good enough i geuss, but there isnt much differebce between de one of 279 and 285. I would always go for the one slighty better, so ill take te 285.

tux83
2010-09-10, 10:06
the diff between them is:
pallit has has 2x dvi 2x mini-hdmi 1x dsub
gigabyte has 2x dvi 2x mini-hdmi 1x hdmi

tux83

think i will go for gigabyte, since it has hdmi, and with future monitors its more common.

Lol ofcourse, everything on high now, AA looks awesome :P

Got some suggestions for other games? Is it worth buying BC2 or are you stopping with that when MOH and COD are coming out?

Vercetti

Not stopping BC2 or BFH, I will play all games. However, as soon as MOH comes out, my focus will be there in the beginning, same for COD.

It is worth buying all games, the first time you play BC2 on high you will be: WTFBBQ>!>!>!>!!?!?!?1
